It's almost 10 years since i heard this song for the first time. I was in a grubby pub in England on the first year of my university course. I'm not quite sure if its the world, the music or the lyrics that struck a chord with me but strike it did. Everyone has their own personal wars, but mine was against my worries for the future of the planet. It's something that has played on my mind every since i was young and caught a news program on TV. There are many threats to the world, mostly of our own making but for me the environment is one of the biggest. Our world has protected us for billions of years, now it's time we must protect it. Our increasingly consumerist lifestyles are straining it to almost breaking point. In particular our energy demands are going through the roof, yet still some countries are dragging their feet when it comes to investment in renewable and sustainable energy sources. No country in the world can say they're currently doing enough to counter this. It is why energy efficiency is vital for the progress of our civilisation. Perhaps in 100's of years we'll look back on this period and laugh about it, but now, we need action. The best course of action is for science to be allowed to continue its work improving our worlds energy efficiency, before our candle burns out.
